Andy ‘Blood’ Armstrong

Blood and Martin from Faluma

ANDY ‘BLOOD’ ARMSTRONG from Barbados, founding member and former lead vocalist and guitarist of famous Square One, is in the music business for almost 25 years now. Starting as a choirboy, he was the youngest person ever to make it to the National Calypso Finals in Barbados. Already in his early years he shared the stage with Bajan calypso legends like seven times Calypso Monarch Red Plastic Bag.

Square One, founded in 1986, became one of the Caribbeans leading soca bands, creating hits like ‘Turn It Around’, which has been No. 1 on the Caribbean charts around the world in countries such as England, Canada, Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Maarten, almost all of the English speaking Caribbean and New York (where it spent an incredible 16 weeks on No. 1 on WLIBs Caribbean Top Ten charts). Known for their explosive high energy performances and outstanding vocals, the members of Square One have captivated audiences at home and abroad.

Along with Square One, Andy has toured extensively throughout the English, French, Dutch and Spanish speaking Caribbean, as well as North and South America and Europe. Another touring achievement for both Blood and the band would have been their historic tour to South Africa to perform for World Cup Cricket in 2003.

He released his debut solo album ‘Conscience Call’ in 1998 and since then has not only recorded and produced several solo and compilation albums. He’s been successful in Cropover competitions like Party Monarch, Road March and Pic-o-d-Crop several times, winning Party Monarch in 2001 with ‘Bandanas’. On top of that he has built up from the scratch one of Barbados top recording studios, where he is working with well known stars such as Red Plastic Bag, Mac Fingall, former Square One colleague Alison Hinds, Terry Arthur and the recent additions Mikey, Contone and Pong.

Now after signing contracts with Faluma his albums will be released digitally one after the other on all relevant mp3 platforms to make them easily available for all lovers of Blood’s fine music around the world.
